Nestled at the bottom of the Ascot Foothills, in a quiet neighborhood on the edge of East Los Angeles, you'll find our school. The campus is sprinkled with charming bungalows connected by covered walkways and surrounded by a textured landscape of fruit trees, pines, shrubs and a small redwood forest. We're a DWP "Cool School", an extensive project designed to provide more shade and a cooler learning environment.

Multnomah Elementary is a school of many schools and programs. The neighborhood school is comprised of students from our community.  We also have a ETK (Expanded Transitional Kindergarten) PreK program.  Along with our two magnet schools, we are an eclectic group of 350 learners who come from a diverse population.

Our community is very interested in all school activities, and many of the students that attend Multnomah have parents or grandparents who also attended the school. Since 1995,  Multnomah has been involved in LEARN, a school reform model where all stakeholders participate in the decision making processes. Various Action Teams and councils consisting of staff and parents make up the structural organization and contribute to the instructional improvement process.

The administrators, teachers, and staff promote a strong clear focus on issues of instruction, student learning, and expectations for student and teacher performance by building a system of internal accountability in which teachers work collaboratively and systematically to improve student achievement.

We are recipients of the California Pivotal Practice Award, The California Distinguished School Award and California Title 1 Academic Achievement Award for our continued academic improvement. In the area of the arts, we are 1 of 8 prototype LAUSD Stage 5 schools and are the winners of the Bravo Award, the prestigious LACOE award for excellence in arts education. We believe that through arts instruction, all students can work in a personal space, develop self-expression and self-confidence, experience a sense of accomplishment, and help us meet our vision.
