    Social Emotional Awareness

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

At Multnomah, we will be focusing on these 4 competencies:

    • GROWTH MINDSET: The belief that one’s abilities can grow with effort.
    • SELF-EFFICACY: The belief in one’s own ability to succeed in achieving an outcome or reaching a goal.
    • SELF-MANAGEMENT: The ability to regulate one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations.
    • SOCIAL AWARENESS: The ability to take the perspective of and empathize with others from diverse backgrounds and cultures, to understand social and ethical norms for behavior, and to recognize family, school, and community resources and supports.

    Week 16 (December 5-December 9, 2022)

(Remember that blue underlined words are hyperlinks.)

We have a couple of requests from our neighbors.

    1. Please do not block their drive-ways during drop off or pick up.
    2. Do not block the bus stop on the corner of Multnomah and Indiana. When cars are idling at the corner, the dash does not stop for the people waiting for the bus. Please make sure you leave that area open so people are able to hop onto the public transit.

This week we are sending home a couple of order forms.

    1. School Spirit Sale: We've had quite a few parents ask for hoodies and shirts so we're sending an order form home for all families interested. Please complete and send order back with exact cash if interested.
    2. Holiday Gram Sale: 5th grade students are trying to raise funds for a special field trip to Knotts. If you would like to support them, you may purchase a candy cane or pencil gram for your child and their classmates. Order forms and exact cash are due this coming Friday.

LAUSD Devices: You should have also received the letter about LAUSD device for home use. Please don't forget to log on and mark if you'd like one or not at all. If you already received one, there's nothing else you need to do.

CELL PHONES: Cell phone must remain in the child’s backpack or turned into the teachers during school hours.  Students are not allowed to have them on their person. Students are not allowed to use them during recess and lunch; especially not to take pictures or make videos. If your child is found using their phone during school hours, it will be confiscated and will not be returned to anyone other than a parent. No exceptions.

TOY/GAMES/BALLS/POKEMON CARDS/ELECTRONICS: All of the aforementioned items must remain at home. If item(s) becomes lost or stolen, staff will not investigate as they were not allowed on campus in the first place. Items may also be taken away if it becomes a distraction.

We will begin taking pre-orders for the 2022-2023 yearbook. It will be $26.00 for softcover and $33.00 for hardcover. This is not a fundraising opportunity and all books are sold to you at print cost. It will be delivered to school at the end of May for June distribution. Yearbooks purchased after presale may incur a shipping cost from the company.

The yearbook is 100 pages of memories that includes 2 pages for each class and then a compilation of pictures of all the events from the school year.  It's a great keepsake!
